German QL Serial Port Cable scheme: a question

Post by Outsoft »

Hi to all guys at QL FORUIM :-)

I've found this scheme for made a Serial Cable for connect my German QL on the WIFI Modem Hayes that have a DB9 fermale serial port.

In the scheme attached in the right part there are the connection by "QL side" but Is not attended If are of the Female QL port (QL SIDE) of are intended for the Male port (cable side).

For the Germal QL is need a female to female serial cable for connect a modern Wifi Modem (that is seen as a PC and not as a real Hayes modem too).

In practice I need to know If in the scheme is intended as FEMALE or MALE serial pins on the QL side.

I copy the link of the schemes:

https://dilwyn.theqlforum.com/gen/serial/serial.html

Thanks a lot.

Best regards.

The ports on the German/US QL have tiny numbers on them, check with a magnifying glass. When you look into the SER1/SER2 from the outside - pin 1 is top right, pin 5 is top left, pin 6 is bottom right and pin 9 is bottom left.

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proven excellent for mdv data recovery.

Im pretty sure they are mirrored on the solder side of any plug you want to put in there too!

I don't know about German QL's, but with the US QL's, ser1 is Data Communication Equipment (DCE) and ser2 is Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). DCE sends on pin 3 and receives on pin 2. DTE sends on pin 2 and receives on pin 3. This means that a cable built for Ser1 will only work on Ser1 and not Ser2.

Very thanks to all Guys.

We have found also this scheme of URS about the GERMAL QL ports (attached).

We will try as suggested on #QLFORUM Discord/IRC chat:

"pinout on Dilwyn's site is wrong for them the trick is that UK pins 1-5 = German/US pins 1-5, UK pin 6 = German/US pin 9"

and yours help too.

It can be useful for other people too.

Cheers.
