Hi Dilwyn,

yes it would be fantstic if you can host some QIMSI software and docs on your wonderful website. I already had in mind to kindly to ask you. But it seems better to wait a little, until initial feedback has been considered and development slows down somewhat. So you don't have to update every three days. ;)

Did you already receive your QIMSI by the way?

All the best
Peter

Tracking says it's with Royal Mail in the UK, expected to be delivered on Monday.

I'll prepare to set up a new page ready for QIMSI stuff soon.

Just a little FYI: After trying an optical PS/2 mouse and a couple of optical USB mice with no luck, I found an optical USB mouse that works fine with the QIMSI!

It's the Hama, model AM-5400. It's probably a few years old and discontinued, there are however a few available new on German ebay: https://www.ebay.de/itm/133010632261

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proven excellent for mdv data recovery.

Please keep in mind that a passive PS/2-USB adpater is required for pure PS/2 mice. Active ones can't work.

Suitable new USB-PS/2 Combo mice are available off the shelf, e.g. Cherry M-5400, Fujitsu M530, etc. from Amazon, Reichelt and others.

Looks like I struck unlucky with QIMSI and a mouse.

I tried 11 mice now, none worked - took several hours between finding them all and trying the various combinations. Some from my junk box, some "borrowed" from the other computers here. They were an assortment of mice, branded and unbranded, some with USB plugs, USB+PS/2 adaptor and PS/2 plug mouse. Unfortunately I only have one PS/2 socket to USB plug adaptor and I don't know if it's passive or not. I was using the mouse adaptor lead supplied with the QIMSI. All the mice work with either of my two PCs, one of which has PS/2 mouse socket, the other has only USB. The PS2 plug ones seem to work OK with Q68 and Aurora.

Will look back through this list and see if I can buy a known working mouse to try. Worst comes to the worst, I can just use QIMSI as a SD card system and nothing else.

You have of course LRESPR'd the mouse_bin in your boot file or manually before checking all the mice? :? It's an easy one to miss and is attached to Peter's first post in this thread. My PS/2 optical mouse has a real PS/2 plug but that didn't work. I know that the PS/2 to USB adapter is working with the QIMSI, as that works as an adapter with an old Logitech ball mouse. Very unlucky to not have a single one working out of 11.

Yes, for QDOS it's something like this for testing (from memory - the QL is switched off now):
LRESPR ptr_gen
LRESPR wman
LRESPR hot_rext
LRESPR mouse_bin (the one supplied on the uSD card with QIMSI)

None of the mice worked with the SMSQ/E supplied either.

I've ordered a Cherry M5400 off eBay. The black ones were all over 30 pounds, so I had to settle for a grey second hand one. Once that arrives we'll see whether I was unlucky or if something else is amiss since it's known to work with QIMSI.

Sign off for today as the torrential rain here is causing all sorts of problems I'll have to go to attend to.

Hi Dilwyn,

sorry to hear that. I'm very surprised that you had so many mouse problems. That pure USB mice don't work is normal, but everything that supports PS/2, USB combo or not, should be okay. We tested all such mice we could find, and all worked without exception.

Does it resemble the example in the manual?

For me, even the one and only mouse that didn't work on Q68 works with QIMSI.

That won't happen. Either we can find the cause and fix it, or you will get a tested working mouse from me.

All the best

No need to buy second hand. You can get the black one for € 8.99 from Amazon or Reichelt.
Just look for Cherry M5450 - that is the "part number" while M5400 is the "model number".

Also note: If the mouse is found by QIMSI, the green LED is flashing once or twice very early at power up. If it does, but still doesn't work later, we at least know it is not a hardware issue.

Another hint: SMSQ/E does not (yet) support the QIMSI mouse directly. You still need to load the separate driver.

Hi Dilwyn,

sorry to hear to you have some issues get the mouse running. These mice proven to work with QIMSI:
Mouse1.jpg
Mouse2.jpg
Mouse3.jpg
Mouse4.jpg
Mouseadapter.jpg
Also I made a picture of the PS/2 to USB adapter which works with my PS/2 mouse.

If not mistaken I sent you a link with the same mouse Peter proposes to use. Is it not available in UK?

I tested each QIMSI in terms of mouse, SD-Card, keyboard and sound so there must be a solution for this problem. Also I got feedback from other users that the mouse works.

Best regards,

Stephan
