The performance looks OK, loads up QDT no problems, the loading of JPEGs is acceptable with Photon.

I have a Motorola Lapdock, works great, but at present there is a couple of trailing wires, so will make a carrier so that the RPI sits on the back with no wires trailing. Makes a nice 11" HDMI notebook.

I could not get a Pi 2, so it had to be PI 3, which is a little faster but not much.

I have a whole range of 64bit ARM hardware so I plan to benchmark various emulators on it when I return from this trip as discussed with Dilwyn!

Hi,

I now have a Rasberry Pi given to me.

Can it run QL programs, especially SMSQ/E ones ? If so using what intermediate software ?

Yes! It may depend on the model, but at least the Pi B4+ and now the Pi5, are very capable. You need Java, of course (this may already be installed on your system) and SMSQmulator.
There are some anomalies, like certain familiar keypresses acting outside the "QL" environment, which can be seriously annoying. Some of these can be worked around and others one can get used to..
Getting used to the whole Linux environment can be another pain.. However, with much cursing and gnashing of teef, Id say my PI5 could now almost replace Windows/QPC2.

Ah, I missed the 2 in the topic heading. Pi2 might be a bit limited and slow to be much fun, but at least you may get an impression of how it works. My current setup uses a Pi5 which is fast enough to use for real.

Hi,

I had SMSQmulator running on a Pi3B with Java installed, the emulator ran okay but very slowly.

I prefer to use sQLux which runs very quickly on a Pi0, but I use a Pi400, which is really slick with sQLux.

The possible downside is sQLux has to be compi,ed for the platform you are using. But XorA has done an excellent job in documenting thd compilation process.

I does not run SMSQ/E, only Minerva or other QDOS ROMs, u less sQ68ux is compiled on the Pi

Maybe needs a good programmer to port SMSQ/E to Pi, maybe impossible to convert 68000 to RISC...

Derek
