SOLVED !! SAFT 40LF220R Memoguard Lithium Battery 3V

i am trying to repair a goldcard , but ..................

i noticed the backup battery is 0 volt .

has anyone ever made a adapter pcb to accomodate a regular cr battery ?

AFAIK only Tetroid do an adaptor for use a standar lithium 3V battery.

In the past I've dremelled out the resin/epoxy and put in a new battery under the red square lid. It's tricky and you have to be very careful, but can be done.

An Australian seller on eBay does an adapter board

My SGC came with one, not fitted, but I had to replace the 4 legs with thinner wire (I cut the wire off a large capacitor)

When the Gold Card is not working, changing the battery will not help much. A working GC will function without a battery.

The AU eBay board is the first thing that comes up when you google the SAFT 40F220R. That looks like a pretty simple PCB project for someone good at designing them.

[Edit: that's a weird design. It T's off in the front for 2 of the 3 negative contacts but then uses the entire back to connect all 3 of them. Why not use less copper and connect all 3 on the top with an extra trace?]
