Sinclair QL Wordprocessors
Sinclair QL Wordprocessors
Are there any other wordprocessors for the QL, except Quill and Perfection?
Is there something better, that can use different fonts or at at least font variations (bold, italic, subscript etc.), columns and preferably allow adding images ?

What about Text87? I think that was popular at one stage. I have the disks somewhere but have never really used it.

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proven excellent for mdv data recovery.

It needs Prowess. I will try to install it. Last time I tried to install Prowess it (or I) messed up my SMSQ/E configuration.ones' complement wrote:Paragraph ? http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/prowess/parag203.zip
I don't think I have Text87 - I'll look in my archive.Chr$ wrote:What about Text87? I think that was popular at one stage. I have the disks somewhere but have never really used it.
I cannot find it on Dilwyn's site. Could you send me a copy?

Text87 is still commercial. As far as I remember, Rich told us, that Fred Toussi, the author, is not willing to make it freeware.Chr$ wrote:What about Text87? I think that was popular at one stage. I have the disks somewhere but have never really used it.

OK - I found it already installed in Black Phoenix distribution. Looks nice and it can do more than Quill.ones' complement wrote:Paragraph ? http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/prowess/parag203.zip
The only problem is that in any resolution less than 1024x768 the menus are unreadable, and I need to use it on my BBQL.
I tried to use the Prowess configuration program to see if I can increase the menu font size - but it just froze. Tried it on QPC II on several resolutions and colour drivers, no luck.
I'll play some more with it tomorrow.
Anyone has any hints on how to make the menu fonts larger ?

Hi Andrew,
ProWesS is a difficult environment to understand and configure, the ProWesS system can be configured in confuguration files which the user configured files are stored in "pws_mine_"
The font type and sizes can be defined in a file called: prowess.cfg
Here is some that I did for the Q60 distro many years ago:
Just rename config you want, to prowess.cfg and restart
The file can be changed to suit your own preference
Here is a screen dump of the 800x600 config file which is defined as: skel_PWhigh.cfg
. With QPC2 configured as 1025x512 in a 1800x1000 window

Re: Sinclair QL Wordprocessors
Hi,
I remember years ago, when I lived up in the land of Ice and Snow, aka Newcastle, that someone in the North East QL group wrote a version of QUILL in SuperBASIC, which ran as quick as the original, when compiled with Qlib.
I never has a copy of this, but maybe a new Word Processor could be written in SBASIC compilable in Qlib???

Re: Sinclair QL Wordprocessors
I finally installed Prowes, Paragraph and Linedesign.
Paragraph and Linedesign run ok on QPC II and on BBQL+SGC in 512x256, but to use them properly and not destroy your eyes you need 1024x768 resolution.
The strange thing is that both programs crash on Q-Emulator.
I use the same win drive on all 3 environments, loading goldcard.bin on BBQL and QEmulator. All other tested PE programs run perfectly happy on QEmulator under SQMSQE, except these.
Paragraph starts ok, you can write, but clicks on menu are not executes and trying to Load a documents frezzes the program.
Linedesign stars ok, menus work, you can load a page - but when you try to load a different font it freezes.
