Eidersoft (M)ICE Eprom question.

I do like my Mice (Icon Controlled Environment) plug-in ROM device. Love the old look to the Icon environment. And it's totally weird seeing "D Jones" and knowing that it's not actually Dilwyn this time ;-).

This is what the PCB looks like:

Just a 27128 Eprom, couple of 74X, and stuff.

Am I right in thinking that I could burn something else (e.g. TK2) onto a 27X Eprom, plug it in and run it from this? Or is the circuitry in some way specific/unique to the MICE device?

It is a 16K eprom, which will be mapped into the upper portion of ROM space between 0x0c000 and 0x0FFFF (so above the 48K OS ROM), but it must also map some hardware I/O in that space too for the mouse

Hi,

There was some work done by QLObi,in the German QL Forum, see

If you can not read German, use Google Chrome to auto translate.

Thanks Pr0f and Derek.

Having lived in Germany since about 2003, it is the only other language I can understand (in fact the one I use most).

I was wondering what the two empty IC sockets was for. Found a circuit diagram on the first German link above.

One's the address decoder, which has been bypassed. The other one looks like more inputs. More mouse buttons?

So my Mice device was the version that never had a mouse! I see.

On a slightly off topic note - did the ROM contents ever get released to the public or are they still private ?

Perhaps Rich will know. I think generally most/all Eidersoft games are still commercial as whoever owns the rights now stopped responding or something (unless I'm thinking of someone else). Probably the same for their code on ROM.

I think they may be 'preserved' - but if the copyright holder hasn't released them then they are locked away for now - which is the legally correct thing to do.
