Yes, the Retro-Printer is the answer (it was available until a couple of weeks ago when we realised that the factory had made a mistake).

The physical connection is not the only problem - modern printers expect the computer to do all of the hard work for them - they do not understand plain text any more!

Since the Retro-Printer is a hat + software for a RPi and can connect to a USB printer can it also connect to a remote printer via Wifi as the RPi can?

Of course - it just uses CUPS to do the printing

Connecting a remote printer to CUPS is not as simple as a USB printer, but it works.

If the USB printer is connected to the the CUPS server, then a QL with a Serial to parallel converter can print to the USB printer.
