Hi all,

I have had problems in the past with floppy disks. I have bought software from RWAP, only to discover that the disks would not read. Last July, I bought a new External Floppy Drive from Amazon, and it has worked perfectly, ever since. Please don't be put off by the cheap price. I would urge everyone to buy the following while it is still on offer ...

Hi,
I seem to remember that the SGC could handle ED disks, and there was a command FLP_JIGGLE 1 needed for compatibility between different disk types, (DD HD ED). The jiggle parameter is saved on the SGC after resetting. SMSQ/E does not have the command.
I had set flp_jiggle to 1 under Qdos. Then I loaded SMSQ/E. Have the heads still been jiggling ever since?
Now I have set flp_jiggle to 0.
Perhaps this will improve things?

re missing files when swapping disk between systems...

Have you tried forcing a new read of the disk directory, ie. do a dir on empty drive so the system definitely 'forgets' the last disk as it knew it, then dir again. Swapping an MSDOS disk between a SMSQ/E system and PC system then updating disks on either has always been a problem. It doesn't occur between native QL systems, the directory is always re-read.

This is broadly what I do to try to minimise the issue. I try to force a "forget" at both ends (QL and PC) and try to make sure I only ever use disks of the appropriate density for the drives concerned.
