Dot matrix printer not working with vdrive

I bought a vDrive and vMap and it is all working well but I noticed a problem that someone else may have come across and solved.
When I turn the QL on, the printer works fine.
After I type TK2_EXT (to load TKii), the printer works fine.
After I type LRUN MDV3_BOOT (to load the vdrive toolkit), the printer generates random characters instead of what I send it.
Has anyone come across this before? Anybody know a work round?

I've used my serial port with no problems having vDrive. However, I don't use the built-in toolkit as I find it easier just editing the config file in Windows Notepad. It's pretty easy to look at the format of the config file to see what needs changing. So that could be a workaround until someone figures out the issue.
