Forum Resource Limits

Post by XorA »

New thread to break this out.

I have taken a look at the logs and it looks like people hitting this are just unlucky and trying at busy times. (ie when the search bots hit to do their indexing).

In normal operation the forum is comfortably within its resource allocations on the hosting.

Thanks XorA. So had I remembered to report it  I'd have been vaguely right that it was one of those things which would have only really happened overnight. Ah well, glad something good came out of the insomnia.

I noticed it was back about 30 minutes ago. Im not sure we can do much else, we are effectively being DoSed off the internet by AI bots!

We have been reviewing the logs and it looks like the resource issues are being caused by ChatGPT constantly hitting the site.

We've blocked the IP address range that was the source of the bulk of the requests and will continue to monitor.

It makes me wonder if all the threads and posts about AI might have prompted the attention ;-)

Somehow, ChatGPT might have realized they have a bit of a knowledge gap on the QL - Which might be a good sign :)

And, just for the record: I have not experienced any kind of sleepyheadness in the forum during the last months or so. Thanks to the admins - again.

Oh good! If ChatGPT ever gets the hang of a QL, the power it would wield....the end of the world I say :-)
