In the Qimsi mode (just boot from a different micro SD card without the files that make it work like a gold card), it will be compatible with almost anything that doesn't use the ROM port or it's address space from 0x0C000-0x0FFFF. And I say almost - because if your device provided a Win type device - then it's going to conflict with Qimsi.

This would mean Qubide or any Tetroid cards providing Compact Flash support.

Hi,

Received my QIMSI Gold today. Working perfectly with BB QL with JSU rom. Tomorrow I will try to copy my Q68 container files to the QIMSI card hoping it ill recreate the same environment.

My plan is:

Rename the QLWA.WIN file on the QIMSI Gold card to something else. Copy the QLWA.WIN file from the Q68 onto the card. That is it.

I need to find a windows comp to do that as my Mac will create a lot of bullshit on the card that I don’t want.

Unless there is a simple way to do it on the Q68 itself (without using a backup program that works at file level)

In typical "what if" testing - and after speaking with Stephan who was able to point me in the right direction for getting the QIMSI Gold to work - I wanted to test if the SD card switchers you can find on eBay will work with the QIMSI.

I am happy to report - yes they do - but there are some caveats!

1. The interface board is a long L shape - and it is tight on space - it will almost certainly foul on the HDMI cable
2. I had swapped the QL's over and after selling the JS ROMS in the test QL and replacing them with JM Roms (it would not have made any difference either way), the keyboard drivers from Jan don't work as they need a Minerva - Doh!
3. The board does look a little 'flimsy', so long term use and the durability of the switch - not sure...
4. Lastly - the SD sockets are the click in type - that's ok, but extracting the SD cards is tricky as they 'catch' in the SD socket.

For those interested in the device:

Why would you want it? It would allow you to chose to either boot into QIMSI mode or QIMSI Gold mode, useful if you want to retain the possibility of using the SD card capability and external keyboard and mouse but plug something into the edge connector.

I ordered an extender so I could bring the card slot to the front for easy card changing, but it turned out to be 'T' shaped (because the main ribbon cable is a lot wider than Micro-sd) which means it fouls the HDMI port

Hi,

I do not like the look of this, it looks like an accident waiting to happen. Just be careful not to damage the Micro SD Card socket, they are hard to repair.

I accidently pulled off the mouse connector on my on QIMSI interface, prior to having a case. Fortunately, the connector only pulled a connector securing pad from the PCB, the electrical connections, were lightly soldered and looked like they peeled off the soldered contacts.

I glued the Mouse connector back onto the QIMSI PCB, for more support.

The soldered connections are very fine and were soldered carefully, with a fine tipped soldering iron. All working now, in a custom case, with removable top.

I would use the option of utilising QLSD EXTboard mod to use the QLSD Reader fitted tomthe front of the QL. Which means the QIMSI Gold SD Card slot is not used.

Hi,

The QLSD is not in production, but if the need is there maybe I could get some made.

Hi all,

be aware:

The jumperable QL-SD will only work in QIMSI mode but not in QIMSI Gold mode. See here:

Hi Stephan,

Thank you for reminding me I forgot about the update.

I will just use my Jumpered QL-SD with QIMSI.

Is there any way to add a second SD Card to QIMSI Gold?

Does QIMSI Gold need a QL ROM to work?

Regards,

Derek
