QL was my first

Post by roadrash »

Been here on the forum for quite some time.. However never properly introduced myself..

Currently 59 and I purchased my very first computer (a QL with JS ROM) in 1984 i think.

Sold my QL many years back, but never forgot about it. So obtained one several years ago and forgot again...
Last year i put a Tetroid SGC in it, along with a QIMSI and a Minerva ROM.
Now i finally have the QL i ever dreamed of in that time of the eighties...
and love playing around with it.

But forgot a whole lot about it and still wondering about all the SuperBasic programs i wrote as a student in the Eighties.
Happily sill have all the old floppies.

Cheers to you all.

Welcome, Hank!
Your story is very similar to mine :)
I think it would be interesting to restore those old programs!

Welcome Henk. Hope you enjoy being part of the QL Forum.
Good to hear you've "unforgotten" your QL and have moved into 21st Century with QIMSI etc.
I don't know about recovering old programs. I found an old disc with one of my 1984 programs on it recently. Oh dear, I am very embarrassed at my 1984 coding.

Hi Henk,

hopefully, yours are in better condition that mine were. Out of over 200 floppies - originals, backup copies and backups of my drives, only 12 were actually usable after a few years! :(

Welcome to the forum, you'll have fun here.

Cheers,
Norm.

I had about the same amount of floppies stored - About 90% of mine were still good. Only the ones I really wanted were unreadable :(

Hartelijk welkom Henk!

I believe it was 1985 when the JS ROM was released, also it was not before that year that the QL was generally available in Holland (the first I saw in a computer store was in October 1984, which was a very early version still with the dongle on it, so probably not officially imported). I bought my first QL in August 1985 a week before the price drop, so I was not really amused with that :( . But IIRC most of these QLs sold after the price drop were older ones with JM ROMs so probably dumped from old stock...

I still have four QLs in working condition; the one I first bought, a second-hand JS, and two JMs which I got for free somewhere in the '90s. Also a Gold Card, a few QIMSIs (I was one of the testers) and a Q68. I was able to save almost all of my floppies and some Microdrive cartridges; a collection of my work is available on GitHub.

Vriendelijke groeten,
Jan
