I finally got round to paying for and downloading the Jan Jones QL SuperBASIC book for Kindle.
Trouble is, I just can't get it to work on Kindle Paperwhite, which keeps complaining "Application Error: The selected application could not be started. Please try again."
Works fine on the Kindle viewer on my phone, though the text is bit small to comfortably read. And the Kindle app for Windows on PC is no longer available it seems.
I've been through the help files, tried removing and re-sending as the Amazon site says, even tried downloading and emailing to the Kindle Paperwhite. Even converted to other formats using Calibre ebook converter, still no joy.
Any ideas?
Jan Jones book on Kindle
Re: Jan Jones book on Kindle
Dilwyn,
I was going to suggest tinkering with the document via Calibre, but it looks like you've done it already. What format is the current book in? .mobi or .epub or the newer format? The kindle supports .mobi if you download directly. Could you convert to .mobi, hook up the usb cable, transfer directly and see if that helps?
Since I have not registered my Kindle (and will not), I have to have all books in .mobi format. If I get .epub, I convert via Calibre to .mobi.
There could be something in the format that is wrong. You could trying converting to .DOCX via Calibre and then back to .mobi or .epub and see if that fixes the issue. The conversion might strip out any syntactical issues.

Re: Jan Jones book on Kindle
The orginal file from Amazon was in .azw3 format (native Kindle). Calibre converted it to ePub, Mobi and even PDF for me, but no joy.
At that point I began to think that some form of digital rights protection or something might be limiting the number of machines I could use it on - I'd sent it to the Kindle reader on my phone, and downloaded the eBook as a file from Amazon, so already had two separate instances.
Then... there was an alert on the Kindle Paperwhite about an upgrade. Knowing how my PC misbehaves almost every time there is an update and needs a restart, I did that to the Kindle too. It took nearly an hour to fully restart and the original eBook then worked, so quite clearly there was something going on with the system update. The weird thing was that other, shorter, eBooks previously downloaded worked fine before the restart. Maybe the update was causing it to run out of memory or something - it was the largest file on the Kindle by far.

Re: Jan Jones book on Kindle
Yes, it's working fine on mine now too after the business with the restart after the update. Thanks Derek and Tim.
