Re: Target for major new QL hardware
I don’t think there will be any issues with a 90 degree bend using new membranes. Once installed there will be stresses in the membrane but it will be static stresses. What breaks such membranes is usually fatigue. In other words, install it and leave it alone.

I think what breaks the QL membrane usually is heat and stress. Peter's board will likely not give out much heat.
As for the QL keyboard/membrane replacement...it would be nice if it could just replace the rubber dome part and leave the rest of the keys alone so you didn't have to cut the case. Of course the problem there is that the keys may not feel all that great. How much does the rubber dome mat impact the typing feel? If it were replaced with a spring mechanism, would we feel it in the keyboard as improved feedback?

I checked my crystal sphere and I foresee there will be a solution for those who like to have a few centimeter of ribbon cable between the board and the membrane connectors. Trust in me!
Re: Target for major new QL hardware
I have removed and attached case top and keyboard at least 20 times by now and did not have the impression of too much stress.

But that is without anything else in the way, at least wouldn't connectors for SER impinge?
(I'm OK with replacing membrane connectors with something else and using extension connector.)

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
Only SER1 is supported, which should be okay. The british QLs don't have the D-Sub space at the back anyway and would use the extension slot cover. Which everybody else also can do. Easier than extending the keyboard cables.Silvester wrote:But that is without anything else in the way, at least wouldn't connectors for SER impinge?

You have a German/US case...that's why it looked so familiar in the other picture with the silver lining on the inside. Looked like my QLPeter wrote:I have removed and attached case top and keyboard at least 20 times by now and did not have the impression of too much stress.
