QL Keyboard Membranes

Post by RWAP »

Well - I have just sold my last QL keyboard membrane from the batch of 250 funded by Quanta at the end of 2010.

Not bad going really :)

It looks as though I will need to get some more made - I wonder how much more interest there is!

A fair bit I think considering nearly all old QLs will need a new one. Or they will once you open the case

Hee hee - reduce the price - what a cheek!?

With the increasing cost of silver used for the tracks and switches, these will probably end up being more expensive!

It was not that long ago that QL membranes were £20 each - you can get them for £14 each on sellmyretro.com !

It doesn't help that due to the changes in the way the post office work out their charges, the postage is now 25% of the cost of the membrane within the UK - it will soon be cheaper to send these abroad than to somewhere in the UK !

That's me, Rich, always after a bargain.

Still, I coughed up for the Trump card, eh? Now I know why you call yourself Rich, ha ha!

(Only kidding!)

14 quid is fair for the membrane IMHO. I paid more for a Speccy one, and that doesn't work perfectly, thanks to a slight misalignment and the plastic being a bit too thick.

The Spectrum+ membranes have been a real pain - there seems to be some variation in the Spectrum cases (presumably as manufacturers changed and/or the injection moulds became older and worn) - we adjusted the membranes to ensure that they fitted on European Spectrums better - but still about .5% of customers say that some keys have to be pressed harder or are misaligned !

Since the next batch will undoubtedly be the last batch ever, maybe a kickstarter-type situation would be best?

Pre-sell a chunk of them for £20 each, postage included, with the price-saving guarantee that after the kickstarter sale, all the remaining ones will be £22 or more. That way you'll get a chunk of cash up front and a bunch of pre-sales.

You could put me down for ten right away.
