Good News

Post by pjw »

It appears a relatively unknown Chinese company, Xi Xong Gong, bought the rights to the MC68 design some years ago. It is claimed they have produced a 1.8 GHz single core MC68k compatible CPU complete with an on-chip MMU and FPU!!! Details are sketchy as of now, but a sample batch of 10,000 units is expected to become available to developers within "the next few months". I have not been able to verify any of this, but my Chinese "Deep Throat", an engineer at Xi Xong Gong, assures me that an offical announcement will be made shortly, so I thought Id give y'all a heads up! :)

Happy Easter!

Per,

I have one sample here. But I must correct you - It runs at 1.4GHz.

Lucky you! But I believe that must be an early prototype :D

Now, being April 1st, might this be just a bit of fun? :-)

Hint regarding "bought the rights": The MC68k was released in 1979. When do patents expire? ;)
