QEmulator support for old MAC Powerbooks...
Hi everyone (esp. Sig. Terdina!)
I've recently come in to possession of a couple of old MAC laptops - a Powerbook 190cs (with 68LC040 - needs repairing) and a Powerbook 5300cs (with PowerPC 603e).
I see from Daniele's site that there is an older version of Q-Emulator stated to run on PowerPCs (mentioning 68k CPUs, curiously...) and have downloaded the .SIT file, but can't find any documentation for this older version that would give any clue as to the spec needed to run it - and whether it would support either or both of those two PowerBook models I've acquired.
I purchased the Windows version of Q-Em and still use it to test software as it's closer to a real QL than QPC...
Thought I'd post here before bothering Daniele directly...
Any ideas?

I have a Sun Sparc magnesium laptop you can have, if you're into really obscure laptops/architectures. It's a real collector's item.
That is all. There is nothing to see here, please move on!

Ha! Thanks Dave
Sun Sparcs - I remember those from my Uni days.
For now, I think I've got sufficient 'legacy' hardware (that my wife calls 'junk' - heretic!) to play with as a distraction from real work (like the QLAN adapter for SMSQ emulators... still busy with it - another few weeks away still...)

Cars go from new to junk to highly prized and collectible. That's now happening with computers. Tell her that right now these are the equivalent of 1978 Ford Escorts but ina few more years they'll be like owning an original untouched Model T or Rolls Royce Silver Cloud.

Hummm - I don't think that'll fly, but worth a shot!

I had a similair idea with a Powerbook a while ago, but enquiring to Daniele, the new MAC version only runs on Intel Macs. The (very) old one runs on PPC until OS 9 and perhaps on early versions of OS X, but not under Leopard.
So I sold the Powerbook on ebay.
I run the registered version of Windows Q-emulator on Mint Linux under Wine, which runs very smoothly.
I have some old eeePC netbooks, which could run Q-emulator easily under Windows.
Regards,
Derek

Thanks Derek
These two models are both loaded with System 7.x - I'll have a play and see whether they are workable with the legacy version of Q-Em.
I wonder if that older version can run SMSQ-E like Q-Em v3.x can...

In addition to what Derek said, if you have an old PPC machine with System 7, in theory you may be able to run the PPC version of Q-emulator. But it's an even older version than the 68K one and no SMSQ/e support either.
