QL USB Keyboard Conversion Kit

I saw these on WOS for turning your speccy into an external usb keyboard or internally for fitting a pi inside etc.

I sent an email off to Dave Curran at Tynemouth Software, who can do a one off custom build for £75 but a larger order could reduce the cost.

Would anyone else be interested in one?

Or think of an idea of what else an internal usb connection QL keyboard could connect too? (Those atari st MIST boards that got mentioned a while back?)

It'd be interesting to connect Spectrum/ZX81/QL keyboards to emulation host systems, a bit like the recreated spectrums I suppose.

I tend to go the other way and use PS/2 keyboards for use with some of my retro computers...

I talked to Dave at Tynemouth Software last year, with regards to the USB Keybaord for the QL. The kit, without the connectors, programmed and ready to install in a QL would be £80 including UK postage.

I thought this was a little on the expensive side.

If a number of people are interested and we can put together a batch of orders then the price will come down. I'll leave it for a week and see if anyone else is interested. If not I'll order one myself and report back with my findings

I do so as well. Torturing yourself with a non-optimal keyboard is all-right if everything is original. But I really don't see the point doing that when modern hardware is involved....

I normally type a lot, and pretty fast - thus my fingers are really picky on keyboards

The extra cost is just to cover the time spent mapping the new keyboard type. After that, subsequent orders would be cheaper. If several of you would like to order one, the development cost can be split. So £60 each if two order, £50 each for three etc. UK P&P £5. I have located a suitable connector now, so these will include the programmed and tested board with membrane connector, mountings and USB lead.
