When I did this I connected pin 20 to molex connector and pin for 5V.

I placed a small buck converter inside the PSU, the 9-10V as input and the SMPS set to deliver 6.5 or 7 v. This to limit the heat from dissipated by the 7805 inside the QL.

Off topic, anyone with a spare keycap for letter C for a ATARI 800 or XL? There are different sizes, the one I need is 18.3x18.3x12.2 mm.
Could also do with a 18x18x12

And even more off topic since it's for an Acorn Atom for which a keycap is even harder to find.

If you have low temp solder paste then use that and solder the ribbon cable to the turned pin connector
