A good heads up! That DVD is priceless to any new or still fairly new users(or anyone else for that matter) as it has every single QL Today on it going back years. A gold mine of QL history and information.

Agreed - well worth the money imo.

I wonder if QUANTA have any plans to offer all of their back catalogue on DVDs (or better still on a memory stick) - that would be pretty cool.

Yes I second that - the problem with the early Quanta magazines is that the font they are written in and the poor copy quality (as they were produced on a dot matrix printer), makes it very hard to scan them.

I know that John Gilpin did some sterling work on these but got to a point where his OCR program was getting almost every word wrong!

I had a go at the some of them and the OCR tech just isn't there yet. Would be better to scan as images and worry about OCR later.

A very weird font on the first issue I saw, the lower-case 'g' for example was all above the line and looked like a pretty 9, OCR got that wrong every time.

Well for those who didn't get the DVD they missed out on QPC2 v4, I have mine running amongst other things Launchpad (also great).

The screen shot below shows the maximum screen size I am working with and the font size in the editing window is CSIZE 3,1 so that I can actually see it.

Ouch! the first line of that boot file is a GOTO to the end of the file! Don't let Tony Tebby see that ;)

I have not got around to installing my copy of the emulator yet as I am almost entirely Mac OS X nowadays, but we do have a spare old laptop lying about with Lubuntu on it which I may repurpose as a WinXP machine just for the purpose of popping on QPC.

It is a shame that QL Today is no longer published - however do you think the current owners of the QL Today website (www qltoday com) are trying to make a point about the QL?

Certainly it doesn't deserve a link in these forums!
