Vote: Who has PE_BGON ON (PIE/PEX) in its standard boot program?

Post by ql_freak »

As the subject says it:

Who has the PIE/PEX extension (PE_BGON in QPC2/SMSQ/E) loaded (enabled) in its standard boot program?

First line should be:

yes, no, 0, 1, true, false

No.

You can easily set up a survey here in the forum instead of asking for reply messages with yes or no.

PE_BGON/OFF and PIE/PEX is not the same thing. SMSQ/E has background updates in the CON_ driver instead of an extension.

On a modern SMSQ/E machine that has a bit of Umph, I have it on.
On my QLs (Trump, Gold, SuperGold Card) I have it off to save memory.

Could you not use the Poll Creation Tab on the New Message option for the Voting...

Thanks Peter,

can you please explain, what I must do, to setup such a survey here (never did such a thing in any social media)? (Perhaps create a new chat in General)

p.s.: But it seems, most of you have PE_BGON (pie/pex extension for Minerva) off. Why? When it was first available on Minerva (PIE), it was the time, where I really was using the Pointer/Extended Environment. Before it was horrible, as any program paused if it had to do any screen output. (I have had used it even with TrumpCard [less than 1 MByte RAM!] and it never has been a problem - YES IT EATS RAM)

p.p.s.: PIE (or PEX from hpr) cannot be used with any Sinclair ROM. You must have at least Minerva(!). This is because the OS (QDOS) MUST support SD.LINEL (Technical Guide chapter 18.9, pg. 169), which none of the original Sinclair ROMs did. On QPC2 (SMSQ/E) you must just enter PE_BGON to enable screen (windows) update from buried (windows overlayed by another window) windows.
