Ground CTRL to Major Prob

Hi,

Does anyone know whether a non-functioning CTRL key is likely to be the keyboard membrane or something more serious?

When I hold it down, nothing happens. So for example I cannot delete.

Thanks

I've had that key fail on the membrane a couple of times, mainly (I assume) because the CTRL gets a lot of use. You could try putting something like a piece of card or paper on the CTRL connections of the membrane to act as a shim to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks will try.

I do actually have a spare membrane but my wife helpfully folded it in half when I'd left it out on my desk. Ahem. Apparently this was my fault for being messy. :D

Likely a membrane failure. Modifier keys have a special set of diodes in the KBD1 line from the keyboard, though, so maybe its worth checking those (D1, D2, D3) - but its unlikely something failed there.
