Hi folks,

it’s a bit silent here nowadays…

I hope you are all well if not great and enjoy the pre-Christmas time. Here in snowy Switzerland (see PIC in link below) days are perfect for some QL tinkering.

Some days ago I stumbled over this web-articles on “The Thorn EMI Liberator: the first British laptop”:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/12 ... _part_one/
http://www.reghardware.com/2012/11/14/t ... _part_two/

It’s an interesting read, the QL got a mention and the entire story is not completely OT when you keep in mind that the UK made QL’s were produced at Thorn (EMI) Datatech in Feltham and that Sinclair’s last computer - the 1987 Cambridge Computers Z88 - has many similarities to the Liberator.

Have a great holiday season.

Cheers, Urs

Cheers, interesting read that. Quite sad really, we had a great computing history in this country and we have thrown it all away to use someone elses tat :(

Looks like you have plenty of snow there, I was dreading the 3cms we got the other day, it's all gone for the moment. I've even had winter tyres fitted to give myself a fighting chance.

Hopefully the cold weather will get everyone back on their QL's, I'm having a clear out of other retro systems so I can get my QL stuff set up better.
