QL Service Manual

A user on the Sinclair QL For Everyone group on Facebook has brought to our attention that the scanned QL Service Manual on my site, and the online version on Urs König's sinclairql.net site which is linked to form my site, has a number of issues with uncorrected OCR. Of particular concern is the parts list where a number of capacitor values are wrongly marked as pF instead of uF (micro farad). This was spotted because of one user's wish to recap a QL and luckily queried the values. Other users including Marcel were able to offer the correct values.

I think these documents were derived from Andy Dansby's original OCR of the QL Service Manual from World Of Spectrum or a similar site. There are a number of OCR errors which were uncorrected in that and derivative documents.

I've posted a warning on my eBooks page until I can go through the document on my site (Marcel kindly offered to inform Urs). Unfortunately, I don't have the original editable document, so I've tried shoving the PDF version through a few PDF to Word converters online. Although the text is now editable, all the converters totally mangled the layout of the document in different ways, so it'll take me a while to go through it all, reformat and compare with a printed copy of the manual I have here (mine is the cream/green cover October 1985 version, whereas on Urs's version it carries a standard Sinclair black cover, I don't know which is most recent).

Once I've been able to finish it, I'll put the new version up on my site.

Appreciate all the hard work Dilwyn, thanks.
Have fun - for certain values of "fun" I suspect!
Take care.

Cheers,
Norm.

Thanks Norman (I think). Progress halted by the weather here - wind and rain at this time of year cause drains to block with leaves. My house is a little below road and neighbour levels, so my front and back gardens act like a leaf trap and the perimeter drains clog up with leaves, which in turn causes the front and back to flood when it rains as much as has today. The electricity has been off a couple of times too, just to make life fun.

So, it's the weather having the "fun" today, not me. :|

Good luck with the drains!

I was out the other night clearing leaves from our own trees, from the gutters as they were blocking the down pipes to the drains and overflowing.

Luckily, the down pipes come off easily for clearing.

Unluckily, they were full of crap and water -- guess who get very wet and filthy! Especially as me pulling off the down pipe caused the entire gutter system to empty over me through the hole where the down pipe used to be!

Raining heavily again here today. Sigh.

Cheers,
Norm.

And I honestly hope to visit it again!
