After some surfing the web I stumbled across these two interesting sites, slightly related as the are Sinclair based, but both make fascinating reading.

ZX Design, a ZX Spectrum Hardware reverse engineering http://www.zxdesign.info/ includes a kind of blog where he describes what he has been doing thus far.

There is a talk on 13th March 2012, in Cardiff, titled "Silicon Archaeology: Reverse Engineering the ZX Spectrum and its Games" by Chris Smith. He is behind the ZX Design website, and as well as taking apart the Spectrum ULA.
