Merry Xmas from scotland!

Hurrah for me, I was given a QL for Xmas.
So I thought I would come here.
It seems to be a stock machine so I assume no roms and only 128k.
Any top tips?
So far I have bought a few mags and a superbasic book from eBay and a couple of software titles from the rwap guy.
Toot toot!

Welcome to the QL forums - top tips?
Hmm.... Enter the command PRINT VER$ to check what ROM version you have as the way in which some programs work is dependent on the ROM version (for example, if you have a JM or earlier ROM), you need to enter the NEW command after linking in an extra toolkit...
Ideally, if you are going to make some good use of the QL, you need to look out for a disk interface with extra memory and a 3.5" disk drive, as a lot of software is now only available on disk (plus they are more reliable than microdrive cartridges).

Hello and welcome!

As already said I think the best investment is a floppy drive plus a memory expansion.

And I take it these things are generally held by the chickens with the toothy smiles?

It depends on the type your after really

Gold cards tend to go for a lot of money but you might get lucky finding a trump card or something similar quite cheap. The disk drives tend to go for more than the expansion cards. It's worth keeping an eye on ebay or trying RWAP?
