Does anyone know if it's possible to run CP/M on the QL?

I see Wikipedia lists a version for the Motorolla 68000 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CP/M#The_16-bit_world

I can't find much about running CP/M on the QL on Google

Yes, there is a version of CP/M-68k by Quest Automation, widely announced in the press.
But, 68k CP/M cannot run the software for CP/M-80.
And, there are only a few titles for CP/M-68k (something here: http://www.cpm.z80.de/download/68k_pgms.zip).
That's why the CP/M-68k was not very popular (actually, Atari TOS is based on CP/M-68k core without the command line.)

But, two or more different emulators of CP/M-80 for the QL exists (CPMulator, Success, Sandy CP/M emulator), that allow running of the popular CP/M software for the i8080 or Z80.

I have never seen a copy of Quest CP/M - I guess the price really did not help many users adopt it!

Would like to try and preserve a copy if anyone has one!

I doubt it - this is a generic version by Digital Research - I think you may have to re-compile it from the C sources before you can even attempt to see if it will work on a QL!

Looks like I've set myself a challenge now!

Now, to attempt to cross compile it with GCC? or try a native C copiler on the QL?

There was good CP/M emulator called CPMulator, which had a ROM in the QL Romport, which worked quite well. I used have a rom image on disk and could run the emulator on a Supergold card.

There is the SUCCESS CP/M emulator, marketed by Digital Precision, which di the job OK.

I remember getting the CPM emulator from Digital Precision and then getting a load of PD disks out of a classified ad in QL USER or QL World

The time I wasted (at work) booting up the QL, loading up CPM emulator trying a PD software, locking up the QL, resetting and starting all over again, phew.

Was CPMulator by Sandy UK?

I remember buying it and failing to get it to work on QL for reasons I never understood, and gave it away to someone at the time. I got a BBC micro Z80 second processor version of CP/M going at work which I used happily for a while sometime in the 1980s, where I wrote a fairly simple staff and resource scheduling program which was used for a couple of years until they outgrew the BBC micros (well, as happy as I ever got with CP/M!)

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be
