RWAP Software 30th Anniversary - Week 4 Competition
For the final competition to celebrate RWAP Software's 30th Anniversary - we have decided to aim this competition solely at QL Users (after all, it was the QL which inspired the launch of our business back in 1986).
It is a big prize fund worth over £200.
For your chance to win a complete copy of the QL Adventures Box-Sets (1 to 3), the QL Games Box-Sets (1 to 6), plus QWord for QPC2, simply comment below with which is your favourite game for the QL and why.
Get an extra entry for including a valid link to the game on the QL Wiki (if the link does not exist, you might need to create the page !), and another entry for a valid link to where you can get the program.
Winners will be chosen at random from all entries received on 1st December 2016.
Entries have to name the actual name of the QL Game - but they can be commercial, freeware or public domain games.
Details of the box-sets can be viewed on sellmyretro.com - http://www.sellmyretro.com/search/natur ... ql+box-set

Ah - but why? Personally I still think this is one of the best looking Chess implementations I have seen.Peter wrote:My favorite is QL-Chess from Psion.

At first I thought to Psion Chess, one of the most complete and accurate chess games I've ever seen (also aesthetically speaking).
But I have to choose WANDERER by Pyramide because it is... really 3D! It was an ambitious project considering it's playability even in a basic QL. I like also its originality and spatial atmosphere.
Here it is:

And you can get it here (at the bottom of the page):

Re: RWAP Software 30th Anniversary - Week 4 Competition
At the risk of repeating myself from another thread, I only ever bought one game for the Sinclair QL, it was in Mode 4 and Karate style fighting game, Pointblank QL Karate published by Eidersoft based in Ockenden, Essex. The graphics at the time were superb. I lived in Upminster at the time and went to the place where the software company resided, about two miles away in a BARN. This was because I wanted to get the game on the day it was released after seeing advertised in one of the QL Magazines. I thought this game was just as good as any arcade game I had seen (such as Street Fighter and similar). Now available on one of RWAP's box sets?.

Unfortunately, no, I don't sell QL Karate - the rights are owned by Eidersoft (Ken Brown now works for powerc.com).Mr_Navigator wrote:At the risk of repeating myself from another thread, I only ever bought one game for the Sinclair QL, it was in Mode 4 and Karate style fighting game, Pointblank QL Karate published by Eidersoft based in Ockenden, Essex. Re: RWAP Software 30th Anniversary - Week 4 Competition
IMHO, FTC (Fleet Tactical Command) is the best game for the QL.
- It was probably the most complex game ever written for the QL. Having to maintain control over a complete fleet also led to quite a steep learning curve and, unfortunately, also quite a level of frustration in the beginning.
- It was the first to introduce the concept of multi-player, even between QLs and PCs
- I think, that given the limits of the QL screen display, it got up to a reasonable level of immersion, and also stress.
- Compared to other games that were available at the time FTC was released, it was a bit like the QL itself: Not a copy of someone else's invention, but rather standing alone with a completely unique concept.

Re: RWAP Software 30th Anniversary - Week 4 Competition
Well, from a statistical sample of five that I've played (!), I would have said Hoverzone [http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/i ... ne&lang=en] -- except that the controls are not re-definable and cursors plus space make it confusing to play. It reminds me of the early Ultimate games on the Spectrum, though somehow my brain got used to the controls then, in a way it can't these days. Hoverzone does support joystick, though given I've never seen a QL joystick, I wonder if they ever even existed?
Given that, I'll vote for The Pawn [http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/i ... =QL%20Pawn], which I've been playing on-and-off for a while now. I say on-and-off, since I can only play it on a real QL and using a real Microdrive to save my place. It looks as if it bypasses QDOS to access the Microdrive, which means it doesn't work with QEmulator nor with a floppy-disk drive. I've had many a one-sided conversation with the monk in the hut. If only I could see inside the cupboard he guards!

Re: RWAP Software 30th Anniversary - Week 4 Competition
I must name two - Jungle Eddi and The Lost Pharaoh.
(as I have not met the real Tactical Fleet Command.)
http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/i ... di&lang=en
http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/i ... oh&lang=en
Not only these Talent titles are nicely playable, but use of the 8 QL colors is far above other QL games.
Not only more ZX Spectrum-esque (mainly the Eddi character possibly borrowed from the Underwulde for ZX Spectrum), but with more sensitive and artistic use of color.
Other QL action games are more flashy (namely the JMF games) with chaotic use of many colors, like on old arcade machines. But these two titles are more graphically clean.
If you want to show the abilities of QL to someone outside the QL community, these games are the choice.
No wonder, that both are included in 10 selected games of the Sinclair QL Games Collection 1 (for PC).
And in the box set QL Games 3 (Jungle Eddi) and QL Games 5 (The Lost Pharaoh).
Obtainable as part of the boxes:
QL Games 3 http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/detail ... mes-3-3991
QL Games 5 http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/detail ... mes-5-3993
or separately:
http://www.rwapsoftware.co.uk/games.html
Sorry, no free download.
But we have map - pity lost from the original Sekano.es web:

Re: RWAP Software 30th Anniversary - Week 4 Competition
I think I only ever bought one game, Scrabble.
http://www.mobygames.com/game/sinclair- ... r-scrabble
And the link to the page on the wiki is
http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/i ... 20Scrabble
Theres another wiki page, under s for scrabble, as opposed to c for vompter scrabble, but it's a blank page which I'd happily fill in, but it would only be a duplicate.
Anyway, I'm not in the competition, so please don't include me, thanks. It's not that I don't want to win, but someone more worthy should get the prize. I don't tend to buy much software.
Cheers,
Norm.
