Microdrive Surprises

I have recently had a large pile of microdrive cartridges re-felted by David Marling.

Quite a few looked to have been unused, but it was not worth taking the risk of using them without new felt pads.

I found some time last night to format some of these cartridges (as people have been asking for spare cartridges) and I was really surprised ....

I took 20 cartridges out of my box of spares. 5 of them were obviously pre-used - 3 had missing write-protect tabs (so I put those aside for later use) and the other 2 would not format on first try.

The other 15 then formatted with at least 221 sectors - the majority formatted with over 230 sectors, and 3 formatted with over 240 sectors!!

The best one I saw was 246/248 sectors..

Is that a record?

:D
