GT-Prolog by Grange Technology

I have now received an email from Graham Thwaites, who ean Grange Technology, confirming that GT-Prolog can now be released as freeware :
Well your letter re GT-Prolog finally caught up with me and I was very pleased to hear that there is still interest in the QL.
I would be very willing for GT-Prolog/QL to be released as freeware as you propose as long as it is clearly understood that the software is made available as is and without any support. Regrettably we no longer have the time or equipment to devote any further effort to this product.
Regarding the documentation the original word processing was done using Claris Works on a Macintosh and I probably have some disks somewhere which it may be possible to convert - I will check.I may also have a demonstration disk of example programs.
If you are in touch with Dilwyn please give him my best regards.

Damn - we don't have a copy of the software preserved - does anyone have a copy?
There was one sold on ebay not long ago - no idea who bought it though!

Hi Rich,
There is a trial version of Clairs Works on Softronic, but I suspect there will be no save function.
Maybe Libreofiice will open the files.
If you care you send the documentation, I will have a look at converting them.

AbiWord (for Linux) should apparently be able to open ClarisWorks files, as well as Pages for MacOS X

I have at least found a potential source for the software - waiting on Graham now to dig out his copies of the documentation disks if he can - I can then forward those for conversion.

Hi,
Abiword needs a Plugin added to make it load Claris Works files, which I think is the best route, LibreOffiice is very large and bulky.
I was looking at Abiword to port it to the QL, but recent version of Abiword are in C++, I think v2.00 is in C, I am having a look at this.

I believe that I may have ClarisWorks (or its descendent AppleWorks) on my old iMac G5. Let me know if you want me to get it out of storage for some conversion work
(won;t be for a couple of weeks though as I am away for a while)

I have now received two original disks for the program (v1.0.2) from Graham at Grange Technology and will forward the files to Diwlyn shortly to add to the Sinclair QL Homepage.
We just need the documentation now.

In looking at copies fo IQLR, I found a two-part series of articles on GT-Prolog. The second part has enough information that should get a user going with the software. The main comment about the package was the lack of quality of the documentation (it left much to be desired). I have the first article scanned. I'll scan the second one soon and put them into a PDF and send to Rich.

Just browsing Dilwyn's website and found that he already has the GT-Prolog article from IQLR (and one more). Nothing like being late to the show.
