Hi

I used the Track changes in Libre Office, which allows changes to the document to be tracked.

The problem with this is that all people editing the file has to have the same version of Libre Office Writer. The seems to differences in the Linux and Windows version of Libre Office.

I thought use Github might make the tracking of changes to the final document, which in theory is ideal. While adding a Flat XML file: fodt file format maybe easier to track changes, there is a danger of maintaining the file formats and not the actual content of the document.

I included the .odt file so that the content can be easily updated, with Free software.

I'm not a big fan of "track changes" especially when multiple people are tracking and making changes. I'm sticking to the ODT file and my little text file of everything I changed/corrected.

I'm currently up to page 169 in the ODT --- that's 169 ODT pages, not page 169 in the original book!

I've just checked and I already have commit access to the SinclairQL repository. When I'm done, I'll put the whole lot up as a branch, if you want, then you can pull the branch and do any checks you might want to do before committing to the main branch.

Hi Derek,

I have uploaded the almost finished QDOS Companion to the GitHub repository. I created a new branch, May2025, for the purpose. I have fixed as many spelling and grammar errors as I could, but a few things are not yet corrected as I no longer have access to my books since moving house, they are all still in storage.

I have left a few things untouched, but highlighted in a natty Orange colour in the ODT file. Those are areas I was not able to do anything with. Things like bits of text that don't make sense, are missing or things in the book that don't agree with the latest QDOS/SMSQ Manual.

This branch needs to be checked out by someone with the book, the ODT updated where I've left markers and a new PDF generated. Then the whole lot can be pushed to the repo for safety, merged into main and if successful, the May2025 branch can be deleted.

I did have a Markdown file with my changes but the damned thing got corrupted, so it's of no use.

Thank you for highlighting the errors in the book, I will update the main document with your corrections.

I have many changes in comparison to the book, to make.

I need to review the use of Github.

I have a private repository with other QL books, I will make this public and recheck all the books.

I forgot to note that where I have highlighted registers that are stated to be preserved or corrupted, this differs from the latest QDOS/SMSQ manual.

I have not looked at this yet, been a little busy with other jobs.

I will get the book updated over the weekend and update Github and add other books I have done.

I only mentioned it because I did have a document with all the changes I made and any queries that I had. Unfortunately that one document got corrupted and was unreadable.

That okay, I can do all the corrd tions.

I am pleased that there is willing to indicate any errors or changes.

Unlike else where where I am told of problems, but notning was forthcoming. It was just like the 1990s again, everything was closec no shared anything, well maybe the chosen few. This was verified in 2002 when started to producing thd Q60, this caused shock waves in the "QL Trading Community" - quote a well known QL Trader.

Anyway, time to end all this Q60 moaning on my part...

All the books I have scanned, OCRed converted into LinbreOfvice files will be available on Github.
