Re: QL Commercial Software Preservation
I keep meaning to buy CP/M for my plus +3 but I've not got round to it yet. Welcome to the forum!

Re: QL Commercial Software Preservation
Thanks very much. I've been meaning to post in the forum for some time.vanpeebles wrote:I keep meaning to buy CP/M for my plus +3 but I've not got round to it yet. Welcome to the forum!
Do you have a real +3 or the emulator? if the latter I can email you the disc image, don't worry about the fiver! The +3 was a real humdinger, a Spectrum with an Amstrad 3" drive bolted on. When I bought LocoScript I'd forgotten that they had produced CP/M and Mallard BASIC for the machine until I came across the master disc and paperwork. This became one of the "assets" I'd acquired. I have no idea how much software was converted to run under 40 columns on the +3, I suspect not much but it was an interesting diversion.
Steve.

A real one
I'll get round to ordering one at some point. I keep meaning to try CP/M on the QL too!

Ahh now, there is an Acorn Electron expansion that is known as a plus 3 as well. Add some extra bits on top of this (a Z80 co-processor) and in theory , the Electron can run CP/M
I have a Sinclair ZX Spectrum +3 and I think I have also got the CP/M disk somewhere, but have not tried it out yet.
The Spectrum officially has 32 columns , but if you have 5 bit (plus a one pixel space) characters can do 42 columns. Or with 3 bit (+1) wide characters, you get barely readable 64 columns.
Mark

“There are four lights!”
Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb

Looking forward to summer in Somerset later in the year

QL, Falcon, Atari 520STFM, Atari 1040STE, more PC's than I care to count and an assortment of 8 bit micros (Sinclair and Acorn)(nearly forgot the Psion's)

Re: QL Commercial Software Preservation
I have been doing a little more preservation this morning - I seem to have two versions of Better Basic (a v1.19 and a v2.01) both on microdrive cartridge - need to check which is preserved (if either) - unfortunately the v2.01 cartridge was corrupt.
I also came across a little oddity - it has a label on it
"ESLEK SYSTEMS CAR DATA ONE - OCT 1987"
Unfortunately, the data is corrupt, but it does not look like any form of database I have ever come across on the QL - I assume there was a proprietary database program which accesses the data...
The outer sleeve for the cartridge has another label on (although this may not be relevant):
"PHILIP HOPKINS, xx BATEMAN ROAD, LOUGHBOROUGH... and a phone number"
I wonder if this is who wrote the program - does anyone recognise the name?

David Batty is still selling DP's "Desktop Publisher" for GP 10
.
Someone should tell him, that it is now freeware.

Some more recent successes here have been Space Paranoids written by Paul Tuck, Star Guard and Glactic Invaders published by Shadow Games; and the recovery of J.A.M v2.7 (is there an even later version out there)...

Haven't I send my version of J.A.M. to you? I do not know the version number.
