That is great news - have you tried reformatting one in mdv1_ and then reading it in mdv2_ (and vice versa) - always worth checking in case there is an issue in the head alignment

Oh, not yet, I had no idea about that issue. I'll do that this weekend ;-)

Meanwhile I'll open a new thread asking several commands in Basic as I can begin to work with this computer :-D

Now that you have the microdrives working you can progress to stage 2:

throwing them in the bin and fitting either QL-SD or the new qubide clone

Now, as long as you aren't that bothered about precise accuracy or the original QL, you could choose alternative LEDs to put in your QL machine. In 1983/84 the choice was limited Red/Orange/Green rectangular.

Today you can get Yellow, Blue & White rectangular.

There are also a bi-directional LED you could have fun with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bi-colour-Rec ... 4612937d8c. With a bit of jiggery pockery you could have your QL power LED as green when power is applied and red when the power is turned off fading away to nothing. Hmmm maybe that is a bit over the top.

I've just ordered some purple LEDs from China although not rectangular they should be available eventually in rectangular form.

A certain persons white based QL could benefit from some white rectangular LEDs though, no names mentioned
