That seems to happen a lot in the QL community: services get set up in the 90s, and years pass by but the policies never change to keep up with the modern World.

It seems that a reasonable set of rules for any modern mailing list would be HTML or plain text, with up to 500 Kbytes or 1 MBytes of attachments allowed. The number of times I have included in-line images in emails to the list, just to have them eaten by a grue is 'enmaddening.'

I prefer plain text on a mailinglist, so the text has a common font. If you allow HTML, written by local email clients, you get a jungle of different looks, hard to read.

And unlike this forum, attachments would be forced on the recipients of a mailing list (or at least could not be selected on an individual basis). So it also has advantages not to allow it.

Better a known missing feature than one that is unpredictably blocked by spamfilters or keeps a slow internet connection busy for minutes, exactly when you have no time.

I take the opposite view. :)

Why limit a mailing list to less than the resources supported on even the most basic of phones that have 1/100th the features and storage of even a modest modern day PC?

Also, if different fonts are a challenge, maybe you shouldn't read the internet, or books, or newspapers, or adverts, or....anything! ;)

I would vote for the lightest resource, which is text only. But most people including me use a PC for email and Internet browsing,.

I get the QL Forum via RSS feed in Thunderbird email client and can enter messages via the Thunderbrowse addon to Thunderbird.

Where this falls down, is when the font is Yellow on Black, which RSS translates to Yellow on White... not a great problem, I just tweaked the colour pallette in Thunderbird.

The QL Users Mailing List comes OK, when messages are entered and again, I prefer Text based emails.

HTML based emails allow a scope for embedded scripts for weak virus.

E-mails should be in plain text. HTML for e-mails is just heresy.

Second that. Especially on a mailing list for a 30 years old computer.

Attachments shouldn't be allowed as well. uuencoded ones might barely be acceptable ;)

Books and newspapers where the font changes every few lines of text?

Sorry couldn't resist to simulate a HTML mailinglist. :D

Sure. Have neither a Facebook nor a Twitter account. I'm not sure I'm still a real person.

Instead I find myself running around and telling complete strangers what type of music I've last heard and show pictures of my kids and former girlfriends around in public transport... :D
