I have one or two QLs like that with no engraved serial number just a small printed sticker.

There were several thousand remainder stock of assembled spares and refurbs put together for clearance sales after AMSTRAD bought Sinclair's assets. Many of these had no engraved SN, and a sticker formatted AR###### or some variations on that. Most of these units were sold through Dixons for £99 in brown boxes.
