Thank you all for suggestions. I ended up purchasing a replacement motherboard for my QL from Rich/RWAP (Thanks for the quick transaction Rich). Just installed it a while ago and it is all good now 
I might attempt recovering that modified motherboard later when I have gotten past the initial excitement of having a working QL
