More QL Programs - but where from?

Post by RWAP »

Detlef Obermann has managed to recover some more QL programs, but does anyone know if they are public domain, commercial or maybe from somewhere else:

a) Dragons Castle - a short text and graphics adventure in English (although the help is in German)... This is in SuperBASIC
b) Scotland Yard (or possibly MisterX) - a German grid game where you play the part of 2 or 3 detectives attempting to catch a robber (again in SuperBASIC).
c) SLAM - this looks to be an arcade game, but is corrupt
d) Star Trek - see screenshot - this is also corrupt - but is not the version on Dilwyn's site
e) Ökopoly - corrupt microdrive
f) Galacatic - corrupt microdrive
g) Screen Compressor - untested
h) I-Copy - untested
i) Quobble - corrupt microdrive

There is a Star Trek for the QL advertised by MPC Software in the volume#5, Issue #38 of Popular Computing Weekly, no pictures though.

By the way I have found a few "MISSING IN ACTION" software titles I need to send you, but first I need to transfert them to an internet enabled computer...

Send me a list of what titles you have found and I will see if they really are missing in action....

I just don't have the time to keep the QL Wiki up to date - I had hoped that by now others might have added their own contributions to the site rather than just relying on myself (and one or two others)..... :(

Hi,

I was going to go through all the QL World Magazine and type in all the programmes, which is good to keep one's hand in programming.

I was wondering about the Microdrive Exchange, I wonder what happend to that when QL World stopped distribution. Seems a pity to lose those programmes.

If it helps, there's a list I got recently of the QL World/QL User published listings in a pdf file on my website http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/database/QL_World_listings.pdf. I use this to try to pick out these programs from real PD stuff. I'm sure I must have accidentally put a few such listings on my website over the years

The list also includes some programs which were available only from the Microdrive Exchange at the time (e.g. those which were too big to publish in the magazine)

Microdrive Exchange was operated by a few companies, including TIL (Transform?) and later Sector Software, although Microdrive Exchange had gone by the time the magazine went to Arcwind, IIRC. I did ask David Batty (Sector Software) if he had copies left over but never got a reply.

Probably a lot of these Ql-World progs you can find on Dilwyn's site.
e.g. I know for sure that the Darts game in the "Q-Games" collection is one of them, as I once typed it in myself many many years ago.

There is a Star Trek type game from Swansoft (althoughit's listed as Space Trek) in Swansea advertised in QL World Jul/Aug 85, page 50. Looks like there was text-only plus graphics versions. No idea if this is the version in question though.

Looks like they also did a game called Protector.

From above:

QUOBBL - By Richard Ziegler - was part of the Sinclair QL User Club's program library and apparently is a Q-Bert (whatever that is ;) ) derivate.

Tobias - could you try and find out the copyright position on the Sinclair QL User Club's program library - is whomever used to run it still around?

The club programs fell in two categories: "free" programs that are clearly marked as such and distributed just for a copying fee and "commercial" ones - I'd guess after the demise of the club the copyright for those has fallen back to the original authors - "Gray wolf" for example used to be a "commercial" users club offering.

For the "free" ones I'm currently working (slowly, lack of time on my side, as always) with Dilwyn to get them sorted.
