Soldering is easy! I've been doing it since I was a kid, I had an old Antex 15W iron which lasted 30+ years and then the elephant died. I replaced it with a brand new Antex 15W iron so lets hope i get another 30 years....hang on, I'll be 95! :o

Right, I said it was simple, so here goes.

You have two things to heat up before you apply solder. The pad and the wire.

You need to hold the two together, in place, and heat for a second or two with the iron. The bigger the pad/wire, the longer you need to heat.

With your third hand, ;) , apply the solder to the joint. Hold the iron in contact for a further half-one second, then remove.

Try to prevent the two items from moving until the solder hardens, you'll see it go slightly dull from being very shiny.

Job done.

HTH

Cheers,
Norm.

Many thanks, I never knew that

Aye, you have to get both contacts hot enough to melt the solder, otherwise it won't stick properly. Also, everything needs to be clean.

Practice on scrap stuff first, till you get the hang. I used to make cubes out of short lengths of copper wire for practice.

Cheers,
Norm.

Soldered one end to the keyboard and the other end fits tightly in the keyboard connector on the QL board. Its the correct pitch.

Bought from Digikey. Manufacturer code A9AAT-1106F and A9AAT-0906F
I've purchased 2 sets of these for when I've practiced my soldering some more...

Many thanks
