This is very true, I work for a hosting company at the moment, and we have many services than make a server in one of our data centers appear like its actually somewhere else in the world. Its all a standard part of business for us! (not for nefarious reasons, some legal, some servers actually appear like they are on a customers LAN etc etc).Of course, no one can know where the actual data will end up, but jurisdiction is the point here.

No worries! We'll go with Canada then. I'll shoot you a PM in the next few days with further information/steps.pjw wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:18 am Im glad to see that there are so many good people here! Thanks for kind offers and encouragement!
It would be churlish to reject an honest compromise, so if it can be arranged, and be generally acceptable, Im happy to go along with it. Of course, no one can know where the actual data will end up, but jurisdiction is the point here. I somehow doubt that Canada will be long after in instigating their own rules. But if the masters here are willing to take the chance Im ok with it.
@techfury: Im sorry for the inconvenience of of first having to move my data and then having to delete it (and possibly to restore it again)!
Please let me know what I have too do when the time comes..

Great job migrating the site, @techfury and others! It seems to have gone off without a hitch. Even the RSS email service just works.
Thanks for keeping this site going!

No problem! We did have a few minor issues afterwards that we've been sorting out today (user registrations were broken earlier today), but that seems to be in order now.pjw wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 5:28 pm Great job migrating the site, @techfury and others! (the Forum will probably autocorrect that to just feed . php but it needs the new QL Forum address before it, i.e. https : // theqlforum . com / feed . php (without the spaces)
I use this in Blogtrottr which sends new Forum posts to my gmail.
I also use it in the RSSdog feeder on the home page of my website to display a few links to recent posts to try to attract new people to the Forum.
Seems to have been working OK today (well, after power came back on after the gales today).

Thanks Dilwyn!
It looks like I can do this directly from within Thunderbird without going via Blogtrottr. Ive done it now, I dont know if it works, but we'll see..

I use Thunderbird to get RSS feeds from many forums, quite a flexible integrsted wsy of reading the Forum emails messages, when I want reply, I just click the hyperlink of the message in Thunderbird and it lauches the default browser to the message.
No need for external programmes, and because Thunderbird is cross platform, thus works on Windows.
I just changed the feed detsils in the RSS feed subscription, all works seemingly.

Derek
