Hello from Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada!
Hello, everyone! Glad to find this QL forum.
I bought a QL during my university days in 1980s. After I started working in the UK, the main serious uses of my QL were for household budgeting and tracking of a few shares I held during the privatisation era (of local electricity boards and building societies etc) in the UK. I even lent my QL to my wife for composing her final year project report when she was studying in a polytechnic in London. My QL and its bundled Psion Suite had indeed served us well.
Regrettably I sold my QL when I left the UK in 1990s.
I am now trying to install a QL emulator on my Linux laptop to virtually owning a QL again.

Re: Hello from Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada!
Greetings (from the wilds of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England - a Scot in exile!
I am using QPC 4 on my Linux Mint 18.3 laptop, running under Wine - it works almost perfectly for my needs. There are other choices available, named SMSQmulator which is Java based. The developers of both systems are on here, somewhere, and are very responsive to requests, bug reports etc.
Have fun.

Thanks for your greetings!
I first tried uqlx2017 which is Linux/Unix specific and quite new (I think).

I have managed to get to the starting window (see attached).
What do I go from here?
I have completely forgotten how to use the QL !!!

I would probably start by reading the relevant bits of http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/emu/uqlx.html as it goes into a fair bit of detail about compiling, installing, running, configuring etc the emulator.drdtyc wrote:

I do notice from your screenshot that you are using one of the finest QL Toolkits around, DJToolkit. I wrote that one!

UQLX runs the old Ql Operating System - JM/JS ROMs and possibly something called Minerva, but don't quote me on that one, I could be wrong. The other emulators I mentioned run something called SMSQ/E (or just SMSQ) and that's a much more up to date version with better working all around - proper colours (up to 24 bit colour depth) and real directories, RAM discs, Toolkit 2 built in, and also, the Pointer Environment too, as well as pseudo hard discs in the QXL.WIN (aka QLWA) format - which are used by many modern emulators these days.
Have fun.
Cheers,
Norm.

Thanks Norm for the pointers.
May I know what version of wine are you using on your Mint laptop to run QPC?

Evening drdtyc,
to be honest, I have no idea which Wine version I'm using. I installed it back on Mint 10 - if I remember correctly - and just upgraded as I wrnt along.
I will try to find out for you as soon as I get back to my laptop. If you don't hear from me soon, give me a poke with something sharp as a reminder!
Cheers,
Norm.

If it's just the small issue of a QL manual, you can read it online here:drdtyc wrote: What do I go from here?
I have completely forgotten how to use the QL !!!
http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/ebooks/olqlug/index.htm
Or if you prefer to download to read offline (PDFs, ebooks...),
http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/ebooks/index.html
That's the original user guide, so doesn't cover other stuff such as a certain toolkit by a certain Scotsman, but should get you going with the basics at least.
