Voice Recording/Conversion for SSS

Post by QLvsJAGUAR »

Hi QLers,

I'm struggling this moment with getting a voice recording in the correct format for the SSS (Sampled Sound System). IIRC I had done this before (years ago) and with success, but this time playback sounds lousy.

Here's the challange:
SSS is 20000hz 8bit unsigned and header-less IIRC, while my Windows recording software and also my conversion software is only supporting 22050Hz and 44100Hz plus a selection of 8000Hz multiplied by 1,2,4,6,12. Even I'm able to save unsigned 8-bit PCM as RAW (header-less) this sounds shitty and noisy. :x

Anyone?

Thanks in advance for any support!

QL forever!

Cheers,
Urs

Urs,

I normally use sox (Sound conversion utility) to convert .wav to _ub files (and everything else sound-like into other formats).

You can either get a version from Dilwyn's site that runs on SMSQ/E (Section "sound") or for a modern platform from here
http://sox.sourceforge.net

You need to twiddle with the command line, but conversion is very good.

Regards,
Tobias

Thanks for the fast reply Tobias. Quite a package this sox. I would like to avoid reading the manual at this stage. Have you a matching command line at hand for conversion of a 44100Hz mono WAV to a 20000Hz mono ub file for our SSS? Would be great!
