Yep, as you rightly diagnosed it was a faulty ZX8301, swapped it for a good one and it worked perfectly - thanks for your expert advice

Thanks for that, I've got a ZX8301 I could swap and try, and I'll have a look at the oins too. I'll also try the RF signal and see if that's any good.

Hi there, I've just got another QL and all works well apart from when I connect it to my TV via RGB to SCART lead the only colur I can get on screen is blue ie. text is all blue and background is black - my other QL works fine with this lead, so I assume it's a problem with this QL - could anyone ...

So just to check if it was the scart lead, then if I tune it in to my tv and use an RF lead and disconnect the scart/RGB lead should the SGC then work ok, as I’m not using a scart lead?

Well I have solved the problem - I have replaced the co-processor next to the microdrive 1 with a hermes 8049 co-processor I had laying around, and now the QL starts up as per normal and doesn't hang on the start on screen, so it must have been the co-processor. I'll check the chips you mentioned - it's definitely not a membrane issue as that is working fine, and even if the membrane was broken after a short time the Minerva ROM goes to the TV screen anyway, regardless of whether a key is pressed or not - the Minerva screen is the oen that always comes up ...
