Re: Bare Metal Diagnostic ROM: Now good enough to use.

Another little update:

I removed the soldered IC3 and replaced it with a socket. The chip tests as OK in my Retro chiptester pro! But it clearly isn't, or it's at least marginal in some respect.

With IC3 completely missing I get just this screen using the diagrom:

Re: Bare Metal Diagnostic ROM: Now good enough to use.

I dug out the QL with the known IC3 RAM chip issue. This machine simply stops on a green screen after the tweed pattern. It does this with the standard pair of ROMs (FP and MGI - it's an Italian QL with Iss6 MB) and it does the same with Minerva fitted.

I know with absolute certainty that there is ...

QXT640 front, anyone good with 3D design?

My Sandy QXT640 has a really messy and damaged front plate. It's a flat piece of aluminium 46x9cm with 2 holes for drives and a couple of smaller holes for LEDs. It's painted black and has white text and stripes.

Re: Bare Metal Diagnostic ROM: Now good enough to use.

I padded the .bin file to 48k and tried it with Qemulator, just for fun.

It starts with a white screen, then black, then white again, then black. Then this pattern appears:

After that a black screen with text appears and tells you what it's testing and when finished it looks ...

I see me in one of the ZX-83 pictures (from when Urs came to visit a few weeks ago - hello Urs). Pleased it's a blurry shot of a projector screen, as it wasn't my best side/day ;). Also visible is my 1985 mono Highscreen monitor and Marion the mother-in-law's table and chairs.

Re: German QL Serial Port Cable scheme: a question

The ports on the German/US QL have tiny numbers on them, check with a magnifying glass. When you look into the SER1/SER2 from the outside - pin 1 is top right, pin 5 is top left, pin 6 is bottom right and pin 9 is bottom left.

Re: Odd Hardware Items

I renamed this post since I came across another odd hardware item that I'm trying to track down. Saw this picture on a Reddit post.

Re: resurrecting one time the original rom plus kludge

Hi Chr$!
Thanks for that! That surely helps!

I already have the boards, so I will mod them according to the pictures in the other thread.
And I might order a few new ones if Alvaro made the changes. I will check his GitHub.
You also mentioned his dimensions were slightly off.
Alvaro, great job ...
