Re: My First Sinclair QL
I have a Tetroid disk interface with Compact Flash, and find it to be an excellent addition. Microdrive wafers are getting fragile with age. Best to put everything on floppy and use the wafers sparingly.

Re: Expanding the range of QL Adventures
Modest updates to Akalabeth: World of Doom. Player now receives reward (hit points) when leaving dungeon and the special attacks for thief and gremlin are implemented--thief special attack is particularly annoying as they keep stealing your weapons! Try it out from:

Re: QL Pawn
QL Pawn is a brilliant game for QL, though I'm far from completing it. Only complaint is that saving your progress requires a blank microdrive cartridge, even for the floppy version. I have a trusty cartridge that I use for this, though it feels a bit of a waste–plus slightly risky!

Re: Naive question about SCART connection on TV
Hello,
I've a question for georgeo...
Looking at the screen you've posted, I see you have a very good resolution on your UMC TV.
Did you see the full characters on the side of the screen, like on a monitor?
Is it about the quality of the cable or have you made adjustments to the TV?

Tonight, I am a very happy QL owner. New RGB to SCART cable from Retro Computing Shack is working beautifully. Thanks to everyone for your help, George.

Re: Naive question about SCART connection on TV
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your various replies. This is more complicated than I imagine.
I should also correct something I said earlier. My TV does not allow me to manually select between SCART (composite) and SCART RGB. It simply has a SCART source, so I assume it relies on getting the right ...

Re: Naive question about SCART connection on TV
Hi Mark,
Thanks. I suspect my TV is a few years old. I can manually select the source and adjust the input size, so will give it a go.
Thanks again,
George.

Naive question about SCART connection on TV
Hi everyone
I recently picked up a new (to me) TV with better connectivity for plugging my old computers into: it's a UMC S16/3NG. It's a brand I've never heard of, but the display seems good enough for retro computing and it gives a clearer UHF output from my BB QL than my old TV.
I also notice ...

Re: Expanding the range of QL Adventures
Hi everyone,
A quick look at Jan Jones' book suggests that I should use RETURN if I want to exit a procedure before the end, which is what I have mostly done--except for the typo, which is probably what Martyn was referring to.
Thanks for your help,
George.

Re: Expanding the range of QL Adventures
Hi Martyn,
Thanks for the advice. When you talk about not using RETURN to exit a procedure, do you also mean exiting early, e.g. from a condition test:
100 DEFine PROCedure doSomething(dng)
110 some calculations
120 IF done THEN
130 END DEFine doSomething
140 END IF
150 do some more
160 END ...
