Re: Assembly programming
Hello,
Are there some examples of assembly programming for the QL? In particular when the program is written and assembled on a host machine and running in an emulator. I am knowledgeable enough in 6800x programming, it's everything else I'm missing, e.g.
A skeleton "Hello world" program for ...

Yep, that's it. Thanks Dilwyn for remedying my laziness...dilwyn wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 11:05 am viewtopic.php?p=39138#p39138
I think this is what tofro was referring to.

Re: What sort of Games
We should be able to have a much better version of a racing game on the QL.
No, we shouldn't. Vroom does an awesome job in scrolling the large (32k) QL screen while a VIC 20 only has to move 4k around to do the same thing. The QL is hampered here because of it both having a generous amount of ...

Re: A reasonably simple frame counter...?
There is another article about timing by the late George Gwilt, though this one needs some knowledge of assembler

Re: SMS2 in FPGA
1. Say a multi-GHz MC680x0 compatible CPU magically appeared. Would that make a difference do you think?
Very unlikely. Think of the list of missing features I didn't (and still don't) bother to make up. You're not going to make QDOS a modern OS in a few night shifts.
Me personally, I like the ...

Re: SMS2 in FPGA
I had another thought on SMS2 in FPGA. There is a version of SMSQE that runs on Atari STs using the same drivers as SMS2. SMS2 runs on Atari STs in the same way. Thus it would seem that, likewise, SMS2 should be able to run on his FPGA hardware.
I don't quite understand why you are so fixated on ...

Re: BASIC Compiler
BASICally (pun intended), all of them were written in SuperBASIC: SuperCharge, QLiberator and Turbo.
The source code for Turbo is available, QLiberator source code is currently under investigation through de-compilation.
Obviously, all three compilers rely heavily on machine code extensions.

Re: OPD Messaging
The Tonto/OPD has its own in-built telephone modem and doesn't need any server back-end or "minicomputer" to communicate directly to another OPD. Messaging between OPDs should work without any other equipment in-between than a working analogue phone line (which you won't find anywhere in developed ...

Derek,
note the MIST (originally developed by Till Harbaum) and the MISTer (a port of the very same thing not on proprietary hardware, but to an officially available commercial (but expensive) development board are two very different things, both in price and capability.

Would SMSQ/E Gold (with a GoldCard) loaded from Tony Firshman's ROMDISQ count? Then we already have (had) it.
